Arden’s LLB (Hons) Law course is the perfect pathway if you aspire to become a lawyer or barrister. An LLB qualification, also known as a Bachelor of Laws, is equivalent to a BA or BSc undergraduate degree, and is the first step to an exciting choice of career possibilities in the law sector and also in professions such as journalism, politics, policing, teaching, and much more.
Our LLB course, which is available at our UK study centres and also as a fully online degree, has been newly updated to reflect recent changes to professional practice qualifications in the UK. You now have the opportunity to select specific degree pathways, such as preparing for a career as a solicitor by opting for course modules that cover the knowledge required for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE 1). Alternatively, you may want to take a pathway that prepares you for a Bar Training Course if you wish to qualify as a barrister in the future. You'll also have the option to study elective modules covering EU and International law--particularly useful if you live outside the UK in a country that practices common law.
However, we don’t expect all our students to make a concrete decision about their future career when they first join us, and this law course isn’t just for those that want to work in the legal sector. You’ll have time to discover which aspects of your law degree ignite your passion during your first few years of study, and you’ll find that this LLB course helps you develop a full suite of skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, presentation, negotiation, and persuasion. Workplace attributes such as these are hugely valuable across a wide range of contemporary careers, and you’ll graduate with a highly regarded qualification that provides value for a lifetime.
With this professionally focused Law degree, you’ll learn practical skills that are focused on your future employability. Studying our LLB (Hons) Law also means you’ll start gathering the knowledge required for the new Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE 1), as well as taking an important step towards a Bar Training Course if you wish to qualify as a barrister. Students who want to graduate with a more universal LLB qualification that’s relevant across different global professions have a number of optional modules to choose from in year three. Each of these modules covers a particular field or career skillset, such as EU or international law, family law, or immigration and asylum law.
Preparation for the SQE 1 exam
The way in which solicitors and barristers qualify in England and Wales has recently changed. Our LLB reflects the latest industry requirements to ensure that students are fully equipped to take the relevant Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) exams if they wish to do so. This includes access to SQE related learning materials for up to a year to prepare for sitting part 1 of the SQE exam for all successful graduates.

A unique aspect of this course is Arden’s Virtual Law Firm. The Virtual Law Firm replicate many of the aspects of professional law practice that you will encounter in the workplace, such as receiving client instructions, interacting with colleagues, and working to deadlines. Through the Virtual Law Firm, you’ll be able to apply your learning to real world scenarios in a safe environment with supportive feedback and guidance from our law faculty members.
To assess your progress through the course, a variety of assessment methods are used that support the development of your knowledge, application, and skills. At level 4 and level 5, each module’s assessment contains two parts.
At level 6, you’ll have the opportunity to choose which modules you wish to study to reflect your desired career path, and you’ll be given full support and guidance through each item of assessment you undertake.
This course is available to study through Arden’s blended learning study mode at our study centres in London Tower Hill, London Holborn, Manchester, and Birmingham.
The course is also available to students via online learning. This gives you the convenience of being able to study from anywhere in the UK or worldwide, providing you with the same high standards of teaching but with lower tuition fees.

When you choose our blended learning study mode, each week you’ll have eight hours of timetabled classes spread over two days at the Arden study centre of your choice. This is combined with around 25 hours of independent study, which takes place through ilearn, our university campus in the cloud. ilearn contains all the resources you need to study successfully. As a blended learning student you’ll also have access to our Library Portal, an extensive digital library with thousands of journal titles, eBooks, and a range of academic and industry databases that you can use to research and gain in-depth information on your area of study. At Arden, all of your course materials are provided free of charge, removing the need for you to buy expensive textbooks to study your degree successfully.
Blended learning is the best option for students who prefer the structure of regular face to face classes with their tutor and fellow classmates, and is particularly suited to students who live within commuting or driving distance of one of our UK study centres.

Our online students study their degree through ilearn, Arden’s university campus in the cloud. ilearn provides everything you need to study at University. It offers an integrated virtual learning experience, including your virtual classroom, lecture theatre, and access to our Library Portal. The portal includes an extensive digital library including thousands of journal titles, eBooks, and academic and industry databases which you can use to research your assignments and projects. All of these materials are provided to you free of charge, and contain all the research information you’ll need to complete your degree with us. ilearn is also integrated with Zoom, making it easier to chat with your course tutor during your scheduled seminar sessions. You can even integrate our study materials into your Kindle, making it possible to study wherever you have your Kindle handy.
Studying online with Arden University doesn’t mean studying alone. As well as receiving regular feedback and guidance from your course tutor, you’ll be studying with likeminded students who you can meet with through our Unitu community, and you’ll have access to community message boards to discuss your course and the topics being raised within it. We’ve even set up community boards embedded into each of the course modules so you can have discussions with your tutor and classmates on the topics you’re currently learning.

We are happy to consider an application from you if you can show us you have the motivation to study this LLB degree, even if you do not currently meet our standard entry requirements. We’ll ask you for a personal statement that demonstrates your ability to study the course, as well as references and evidence of relevant experiences and/or previous qualifications.
Exemptions may be granted in respect of other prior qualifications subject to Arden’s APCL regulations.

Whilst you can read your study materials on your smart phone or tablet, to make the most of your learning experience, you will need access to a laptop or computer (we recommend one running the latest version of Windows), and a good stable internet connection.
